What We Do

MKPSE trains and engages women and youth groups by equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and partnerships needed for sustainable farm enterprises. Our approach focuses on developing Farm-Microenterprises, including poultry, piggery, mushroom cultivation, and horticulture, to address poverty, create jobs, and boost household income for women and youth farmers in rural communities around Jinja and other areas where the Branches operate.

Empowerment Programs: Initiatives aimed at empowering women through skills training, leadership development, and economic opportunities, such as job training programs or entrepreneurship support.

Community Building: Creating networks and communities for women and the youth to share experiences, support each other, and work together on common goals.

Several sensitization workshops and seminars are planned, and staff conduct community visits, offering door-to-door outreach when necessary.

After the community has been sensitized, staff recruit members to join various groups based on their interests and the existing projects.

Training is conducted continuously, adapting to new skill requirements and the arrival of new members.

Once a group has initiated a project, regular mentoring sessions are held to ensure that members stay on track and achieve their goals.

The Sisters have established markets for their products in hotels and institutions. They also facilitate connections between the communities and these markets, helping to bypass the challenges associated with using intermediaries.

A group of women participates in a sensitization workshop conducted by the staff of the Little Sisters of St. Francis and Mother Kevin Providence Social Enterprise. Once members express interest, training begins in various activities.

Organic fertilizers are effective in enhancing plant growth. We train our staff to create plant juice by cutting young banana stems early in the morning, chopping them into small pieces, and mixing them with molasses. The mixture is then sealed and left to ferment for seven days. After fermentation, the liquid is drained and used to spray crops once a week for one month.

MKPSE carries out a number of activities towards the empowerment of Sisters, women and youth

Sr. Juliet Namiiro, one of our site managers, oversees a chicken project in Kamuli and assists young women in mixing feeds for the chickens.

Currently, Sr. Juliet is working closely with the MKPSE team in Jinja.

Sr. Immaculate Nafula, who is currently working in Iganga, has a strong interest in piggery farming. She is applying the skills she has acquired to assist both the Sisters in the community and the employees.

One of the objectives of Mother Kevin Providence Social Enterprise is to visit Formation Houses and encourage them during home visits to speak with the community about the importance and benefits of starting income-generating projects to support their families.
